J.K. Rowling Not Attending ‘Harry Potter’ Reunion

J.K Rowling won’t be joining the cast of Harry Potter for the HBO reunion.

Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are teaming back up with filmmaker Chris Columbus.

Other cast members, including Tom Felton, Helena Bonham Carter and Robbie Coltrane (amongst many others across all eight films), are also set to star in the reunion to celebrate the anniversary of the franchise’s first film.

But the author of the popular books-turned-films, will not be present for the special – except for in archive footage, The National confirms.

She will not be joining because of previous transphobic tweets.

The initial tweet was in response to an article titled: “Opinion: Creating a more equal post-Covid-19 world for people who menstruate.”

She appeared to make a ‘joke’ about how the word ‘women’ is not used in the title.

‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?

Amid the backlash from this tweet, Rowling decided to detail her point further.

If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth.

After Rowling‘s comments, Watson spoke out in support of the trans-gender community.

Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are.

HBO Max confirm that the reunion special will be dropping at midnight January 1, 2022.
