Jack Grealish Reveals The Club He Almost Joined Before His City Switch

Manchester City winger Jack Grealish has revealed the Premier League switch he almost made last year.

After consistently impressive performances for Aston Villa since their return to the top flight, Grealish was reportedly high on Manchester United’s radar.

But after the influential signing of creative midfielder Bruno Fernandes in the winter transfer window, plans to sign the English forward seemed less urgent.

“I was really close to going [to United], but nothing happened in the end,” he revealed to the Telegraph.

Another standout season for boyhood club Villa would see Grealish eventually make the switch to Manchester, but to United’s rivals: Manchester City.

City triggered the clause in Grealish’s newly signed contract that would allow him to leave for an eye-watering £100m price tag.

Adapting to life at his new club has been ‘harder than expected’, admits Grealish.

This week he returned to Villa Park where he received a mostly warm welcome, but some hostile boos did not go amiss for their former captain.

City beat Villa 2-1 in a closely contested game that saw a Bernardo Silva stunner secure all three points for the title-chasing blues.
