James Corden Faces Backlash After Calling BTS’ Fans “15-Year-Old Girls”

James Corden has come under fire from BTS fans after making a series of jokes about the K-pop group on his late show.

During an episode of The Late Late Show With James Corden on September 20, the British comedian poked fun at BTS’ recent appearance at the United Nations General Assembly.

Corden stated that the group were “some pretty unusual visitors” for the UN, whilst also referring to their fanbase as “15-year-old girls”.

“Historic moment. It actually marks the first time that 15-year-old girls everywhere found themselves wishing that they were Secretary General António Guterres,” he said.

Fans of the group where quick to criticise Corden for his comments, pointing out that it should not matter what age they are.

James Corden, as a teenage girl myself I just want to take a moment to say leave us alone. I’m not brainless for liking a boy band, and neither does me liking a boy band invalidate their achievements. Stop using my gender and age as a way of mocking other people and what they do.

BTS accompanied South Korean President Moon Jae-in to the UN General Assembly earlier this week, where they delivered a speech promoting the coronavirus vaccine and praising young people for their resilience.

The group also produced a new music video for their hit single Permission To Dance at the UN. Watch it below.
