Lily Cole, Rebecca Calder, Maeve Dermody and Catherine Chalk are the latest cast members to join Lasse Hallström’s new biopic, Hilma.
Hilma will explore the life of the Swedish artist Hilma af Klint, whose feminist art remained mostly undiscovered for decades. She would become known as one of the world’s first abstract artists.
The new additions are pegged to play four women who formed a group with Klint, known as “The Five”. The group reportedly influenced Klint in her feminist artwork and helped her produced works such as ‘Paintings for the Temple’.
Lena Olin and Tora Hallström are also attached to the project and will portray older and younger versions of Klint.
According to Variety, the picture is currently in production in Stockholm and Vilnus.
“I am absolutely delighted to be working on Hilma,” said Cole. “A film which tells the story of the world’s first abstract painter and pioneering group of women with whom Hilma developed her work.”
The film will premiere under Viaplay in 2022.
