Actress Raeden Greer has claimed she was fired from True Detective by director Cary Fukunaga after refusing to go topless for a scene.
Speaking to The Daily Beast, Greer, who was cast to play an exotic dancer on the HBO series back in 2013, said that she initially raised concerns about the role with her agent.
“I kept getting the answer from my agent and from casting – ‘no, that would be absolutely unheard of if they asked you to do nudity after it wasn’t disclosed,” she said.
Although Greer’s agent assured she wouldn’t be filming any nude scenes, the actress claims that when she turned up for filming producers gave her nothing but a nude thong to wear.
It was at this point, Greer says she spoke to director Fukunaga, who pulled her aside for a chat in an attempt to convince to wear the outfit.
“Cary said to me at that moment, ‘Everybody on this show goes topless. All the women on the show go topless. Your character is a stripper, so you have to,’” she said.
“He was trying different things to convince me that it’s not a big deal,” she added.
Greer claims that she was then later fired from the role after flat-out refusing to wear the outfit. Neither Fukunaga nor HBO has made a comment yet on the actresses claims.
