Sian Clifford and Jonathan Aris are the latest stars to join the cast of ‘His Dark Materials‘.
According to the Radio Times, Clifford and Aris are set to play Gallivespian spies: Agent Salmakia and Commander Roke.
In the books, written by Philip Pullman, Gallivespians are insect-sized humanoids, with an advanced society and a big sense of pride. Their size, coupled with their ability to inflict deadly stings, makes them well equipped to be spies.
“I was thrilled when I got the part – I’m just so fascinated by the whole Gallivespian phenomenon.” Aris to the Radio Times. “I’m also very, very delighted to be here, and my 12-year-old tells me its the coolest thing I’ve ever done.”
Sian Clifford is best known for her portrayal of Claire in the hit British series, ‘Fleabag‘. She has enjoyed a busy year, with upcoming voice-work in Netflix’s, ‘The Magician’s Elephant‘ and Disney+ series, ‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch‘. She will also feature in the new mystery film ‘See How They Run‘.
Jonathan Aris, who featured in acclaimed series ‘Sherlock‘, has also enjoyed roles in the likes of ‘Good Omens‘, ‘Black Mirror‘, ‘The End of the F***ing World‘ and ‘Humans‘. He has also appeared in an array of sci-fi films, including ‘Rogue One‘, ‘Vivarium‘ and ‘The Martian‘.
Clifford and Aris are not the only new faces to join the latest season of the show. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Jamie Ward are also new to the BBC/HBO series.
Returning cast members include stars Dafne Keen and Amir Wilson; alongside Ruth Wilson, James McAvoy, Simone Kirby, Will Keen, Jade Anouka, Ruta Gedminstas.
