The Premier League Release Statement Regarding Fixtures Amid Covid Crisis

The Premier League has released a statement acknowledging the ongoing Covid-19 that has resulted in multiple fixtures being postponed.

As the congested Christmas playing period kicked off, only a handful of games went ahead as clubs continue to battle with a significant rise in Covid cases across players and staff.

Their most recent statement, however, insists that they will continue to persist with the current fixture list; and have no current plans to suspend the season temporarily.

“It was confirmed at a Premier League club meeting today that while recognising a number of clubs are experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks and challenges, it is the League’s collective intention to continue the current fixture schedule where safely possible,” they wrote on Monday (December 20).

“The health and wellbeing of all concerned remains our priority and the League will continue to monitor and reflect public health guidance, always proceeding with caution.”

It was also revealed that 92 per cent of players and club staff have received one, two or three Covid-19 vaccination doses.

It has also been confirmed that going forward, any match goer 18 or over must be fully vaccinated or show proof of a negative lateral flow test, complete a covid-10 self declaration form on their clubs website, show their Covid pass, and wearing a face covering.

The next round of fixtures to take place will be from December 26.
