Whitney Houston’s ‘The Bodyguard’ To Be Remade By Warner Bros

Warner Bros is currently working on a remake of the 1992 romantic drama, ‘The Bodyguard‘, starring Whitney Houston.

According to Variety, Matthew López is attached to write the re-imagined feature. Lawrence Kasdan, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce.

The original story followed Secret Service Member, Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner), tasked with providing security for R&B singer, Rachel Marron (Houston), whose personality and lifestyle are nothing like the President’s.

The Bodyguard‘ was the second highest grossing film of 1992. It’s soundtrack became one of the bestselling of all time, and included Houston’s rendition of Dolly Parton’sI Will Always Love You‘. The track remains one of the most successful singles in history.

News of a remake has inspired a mixed response from fans online; with many expressing disappointment at Hollywood’s perceived insistence to reboot ‘classics’. Some fans also suggested that a reboot would be disrespectful to the memory of Whitney Houston.

“This is such a horrible idea. There is no need for a remake of the legendary movie, The Bodyguard. Hollywood refusing to invest in new talent and create new stories is pure laziness at this point.” Wrote one fan.

“There is nothing worth remaking in The Bodyguard, a nonsense film from a threadbare script that we remember only because it captured Whitney Houston at the absolute incandescent supernova zenith of her stardom. You can’t remake Whitney Houston, so why bother?” Added film critic, Guy Lodge.
